Hong Kong Hiking Trails

Hiking Trails & Hiking Group Information

When I went to Hong Kong, I knew at once I wanted to write a story set there. - Paul Theroux

In Hong Kong, the Country Parks occupy about 40% of the land area of Hong Kong. Hiking trails of different difficulties and features ramify the Country Parks, ranging from Family Walks which offer visitors the pleasure of light hiking to Country Trails that are prepared for family or small groups for a day or half day outing.

Others such as Nature Trails and Tree Walks are installed with on-site interpretative plates to introduce visitors to the wild animals and plants that inhabit the Country Parks. These hiking trails will offer you a good day out.

Most hikes are a part of Hong Kong`s 4 main hiking trails, the Maclehose Trail, The Wilson Trail, The Lantau Trail and finally the Hong Kong Trail.

This site lists the main hiking trails in Hong Kong, which can be filtered by area, grade, distance, type & duration. Click the areas shown to begin.

There are a number of excellent hiking groups in Hong Kong. Some have regular weeky hikes, others less so. In many cases the hikes are free, but check with the websites as some offer paid services.

If you haven`t hiked before, you should pay close attention to the details of each hike and the levels of difficulty. What is hard for one person isn`t for another, so decide based on your own situation. Check with hike leaders if you are unsure.

I hike with Roz`s Hiking Group each week, where I am one of the hike leaders, so maybe I`ll see you soon.

If you would like your website listing, just let me know.

David.
I`ve been travelling to Hong Kong since 2001 and nowhere on earth has a place been so magical to me. From the culture, to the music and the wonderful people, this Asian paradise has a true place in my heart.

Hiking is one of the things so great about Hong Kong. Just a few minutes from hustle and pollution of the city is a peaceful and tranquil world of nature. This site helps to showcase this beautiful side of such a vibrant city and it`s my own personal tribute to Hong Kong.

I am enternally grateful to the webmasters of Enjoy Hiking for their useful information and insights into Hiking in Hong Kong. This site borrows resources from their site and is used with kind permission.

For the tech minded, this is a HTML5 responsive website which was designed and programmed by myself. It uses the web development framework Twitter Bootstrap, along with jQuery & Font Awesome. The backend uses PHP & MySQL with a custom caching system. I built it in a day when I needed a break from work related coding.
